Unashamed ("we", "our", "the app") helps people work through compulsive pornography use through self-guided tools, an accountability partner, and small peer communities. This page explains what information the app collects, why, and who can see it.
The short version: we only collect what the app's features actually need to work. We don't run ads, we don't have trackers, and we never sell your data. Our content filter never records or uploads the websites you visit. Anything related to your recovery, such as your streak, journal, and urge logs, is visible only to you unless you choose to share it (for example, with an accountability partner).
Your Consent
Before the app turns on protection or sends any of your data to our servers, it shows a screen explaining what is collected and why, and asks you to agree. If you don't agree, you're signed out and nothing further is sent. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account (see Your Rights & Choices).
Information We Collect

| App events (Android only) | The names of apps you've flagged, limited, or scheduled, and when one was opened, paused, or went over its limit. This is used for your Progress screen and shared with your accountability partner. We never record what you did inside an app. On iPhone, Apple keeps this information on your device, and Unashamed can't see it. |
| Notification token | A token that lets us send push notifications to your device, such as accountability alerts. |
| Device security | Your PIN and biometric lock are stored securely on your device only. We never receive or store them. |
Content Filtering
Unashamed blocks adult websites on the device where you turn protection on. It never records, stores, or uploads the websites you visit or the web addresses your device looks up, to our servers or anywhere else.
- On Android, the app uses a local VPN that handles only DNS lookups (how your device finds a website's address). Your web traffic doesn't pass through it. Each lookup is checked with two filtering services, Cisco OpenDNS FamilyShield and NextDNS, only to decide whether to block it. Lookups are handled in memory and are never logged.
- On iPhone, the app does not use a VPN. It sets your iPhone's encrypted DNS setting to Cisco OpenDNS FamilyShield, and turns on Screen Time's built-in adult website filter. Your iPhone sends lookups directly to OpenDNS, and Unashamed never sees them.
Our commitment: we do not sell, use, or disclose to third parties any data from our content filter, for any purpose. The filtering services receive lookups only to return a block or allow answer. No account information is sent with them.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide the app's core features: tracking your streak, keeping the protection you've turned on in place, and running the accountability and community features.
- To send notifications you rely on, such as accountability alerts and reminders before a restriction starts. Notifications are worded so they don't reveal what the app is for.
- To keep your account secure and let you sign in.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to third parties.
Who Can See Your Information
- You always have full access to your own data.
- An accountability partner you've explicitly connected with can see your protection status and app events, for example whether protection is running, or that a flagged app was opened. They never see your journal or private notes.
- Members of a community circle you've joined can see posts and comments you make in that circle, under your anonymous handle.
- We (the app's operators) can access data only as needed to run the service, investigate abuse reports, or respond to a legal request.
Service Providers
We use a small number of providers to run the app. They process data only on our behalf, to provide their service:

All providers encrypt data in transit. Access to your data within our database is restricted by row-level security rules, so, for example, another user cannot query your private journal entries directly.
Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your account and associated personal data are deleted, except where we're required to retain something for a legitimate legal or safety reason (for example, a moderation report already filed against your account).
Children's Privacy
Unashamed is intended for users aged 17 and older, consistent with the app's Terms & Conditions. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 17.
Your Rights & Choices
- Delete your account in the app: go to Account → Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and its data from our database straight away.
- Access, export, or correct your data, or request deletion without the app: see our Data Requests page.
- Permissions: you can turn off notifications, Screen Time access, or the DNS/VPN protection at any time in your device's Settings.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. If we make a material change, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
